Congrats to the gorgeous and talented Amber Casey who is this week’s Wednesday Woman! Amber is an award winning Creative Director who has worked for some of the world’s most celebrated ad agencies. Here’s her Q&A with Tease + Totes.
Newnham: What's your background?
Casey: I was born into a chaotic, loud and eccentric family. My mum and dad are a great serial entrepreneurial team*, who never made me feel like I couldn't reach for the stars. I only realised some people thought it was a disadvantage being a girl much later on in life.
When I was young, I had terrible concentration (yet I could spend hours drawing), and thought I was stupid for years. But luckily I knew there was one thing I was good at - Art. It was only later when I got accepted into Central Saint Martins that I finally found 'my people', who were also incredible competition and challenged me to be better.
Newnham: What do you do now?
Casey: I am a Creative Director, working as part of an all girl team at advertising agency DLKW Lowe.
Newnham: What/who inspires you?
Casey: My mum and dad; people who live their lives with integrity, and anyone who takes real pride in what they do. I guess everything I see and hear in some way.
Newnham: If you could offer a young Amber one piece of advice, what would it be?
Casey: I would say, “You're not stupid. You're just crap at spelling and have no sense of direction! Believe in yourself and take risks because it will open up an incredible world. If you make the wrong decision, then don’t worry because nothing is forever”.
*Amber’s parents are the founders and owners of the Haché Burgers chain of restaurants in London.
